Ace Frehley is a name among the guitar greats. Unfortunately I wouldn’t know as I wasn’t a huge KISS fan. It’s not that I didn’t like them, it’s just I’ve never heard them enough or sought them out. I also never changed the station when they were on the radio.

The closest thing to KISS for me was I came close to meeting Paul Stanley a few times while at NAMM. He always seemed approachable, kind, & cool with being around fans. As for Ace, I tried opening for him a few times. In the past year or two, I’d look to see when he was coming to town and if local enough, I’d reach out to his manager:

Unfortunately I never received a response. I usually don’t contact the venue as I’ve found they defer to the artist. They probably get so many inquiries and don’t want the liability of adding a potential bad opener (either music or personality-wise).

I will say over the past few months, I’ve inadvertently turned a few people onto Ace. My playlist often ends up on “New York Groove”, a song I first heard on MTV’s NY Ink.

Maybe I’ll check out even more Ace. Rest easy, Spaceman.
